Backcountry Skills

Backcountry Skills Camp is a four day backcountry and camping skills offering that concludes with an overnight campout. This one of a kind offering is instructed by professional, experienced and WFR (wilderness first responder) certified backcountry guides. Backcountry Skills is a precursor camp to our backcountry offering Intro to Backpacking, which is a three day, two night adventure into Tahoe National Forest.

Each camp day Backcountry Skills participants will embark on adventures and engage in activities that teach them the how-tos of backcountry travel, safety and stewardship. Lessons include; map making, trail navigation, how to select a tent site, how to pack your pack, setting up and breaking down your tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bed, meal preparation, cooking in the backcountry, cooking in the front country, avoiding ailments like insect bites, sunburn and more.

Then on Wednesday night, campers will put their newly learned skills to the test during their culminating overnight campout. This overnighter will reinforce skills like campsite selection, camp and tent set up, dinner prep, stargazing, and storytelling under the summer night sky! Thursday morning campers will awake, ready themselves and prep and cook breakfast for the group.
